In the mid 1970s Imam W Deen Mohammed suggested that we use the Name Bilalian to identify ourself as a people. He late told us that the name was suggested to him by a foreign Muslim who was formilar with our history.

Bilal was an African, a Christian, a slave, who accepted Islam under Prophet Muhammad, and became his 9th commanion, and the first Muezzin; or caller to worship, five (5) times a day, or calling humanity to use their five senses throughtout the day and night, until we become scientific (50)

After the Prophets death Bilal moved to Syria where he died, they built a monument there in his memory.
