Grief is a profound sense of loss with emotional stages that we all experience. When we focus on the facts as they are, instead of the "why" of the event it helps us take that pain and move it externally. Once a person contemplates the final grief stage of acceptance (doesn't mean you aren't still grieving) it's imperative to connect with similar people and find a way to honor or create a legacy for that which was lost.
