Today on our program we will discuss: The dark side of nursing, its impact on a nurse's life and well-being. Being a nurse can be demanding and extremely stressful, having both physical and emotional impacts on a nurse. Some of these stresses can be a result of lack of social support, inability to control one’s work schedule or assignments, a chaotic or monotonous job, work-life imbalance, and other factors.

Our guest today is educator and Critical Care Nurse, Reezena Malaska. Reezena  trained in Oxford, England at the Oxford School of Nursing, now Oxford Brookes University and received a diploma in nursing after taking the UK boards. Reezena moved back to Canada where she worked in many specialties for 10 years. During this time she pursued advanced education in Critical Care Nursing education and certification.

Reezena became certified as a Critical Care nurse and then moved to the United States where she spent the last 20 years moving every 3-4 years as a military wife and working in many acute care settings. During her many moves, she continued on with nursing education and pursued the BSN via Chamberlain College of Nursing where she graduated in 2005. Later she received an MSN via American Sentinel University.

Reezena has worked at many different hospitals across the country in many different roles. To date, she has 20 years experience as a Critical Care RN, and for the past year worked as Trauma Critical Care RN at a local Level I Trauma Center and Adjunct Professor teaching BSN (Notre Dame College) & ADN (Cuyahoga Community College) clinicals. Her educational quest continues, and she is currently pursuing studies for Doctorate in Nurse Practice.
