Guests: Gil Harrington and Jane Lilian Vance of Help Save the Next Girl

Help Save the Next Girl, the powerful non-profit foundation formed in the wake of Morgan Harrington’s 2009 murder, has reached an international stage. But President and Founder, Morgan’s mother Gil Harrington, and Vice President, artist Jane Lillian Vance, still insist on delivering compassion personally, not as an industry.

They have hand-folded and packaged every one of the thousands of Help Save the Next Girl shirts you see in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia; in New York, Chicago, or Portland. “I like my hand to warm every single shirt we send out with a prayer for safety and joy,” Gil says. In fact, whenever possible, they insist on spreading their empowering messages of safety, community, and civic responsibility one person, or one small audience, at a time.

Gil and Jane believe that the work of acknowledging neighbors’—even strangers’—humanity and divinity can happen every day, wherever you are, whoever you are.

As Gil says, “We refuse to be defined by our injury. We want not just to recover. We want to flourish. We want to be an example of resilience and positive legacy. Morgan would want us to move forward in her name, extending such compassion.”
