Author Jane Birch discusses her book, "They Flew Proud," on the "I'd Rather be Flying" show

Unless you're old enough to remember WWII, you've probably never heard of the CPTP. The "Civilian Pilot Training Program" was begun in 1939, when the involvement of the US in the war seemed inevitable, and the need for a corps of trained pilots was evident. "They Flew Proud" is the story of the CTCP and inspired by one of their instructors, Jane's dad, Gardner Birch.
