Virtual Reality Applications of Community Risk Reduction

Participants will discuss the use of technology in community risk reduction. You will also review a case study of how Madison Fire & Rescue created a successful virtual reality fire education program for their city, the successes, and mistakes made in the creation of the program. Participants will also experience the virtual reality experiences created by Madison Fire & Rescue.

Learning Objectives:

• The participants will discuss and identify the benefits of using virtual reality for the purpose of fire education.
• The participants will become familiar with the data collection methods and benefits of being able to customize the data being collected.
• Participants will discuss a case study detailing the steps taken to begin a virtual reality fire education program along with the mistakes and successes in doing so.
• Participants will discuss methods to enhance their current public education programs and identify one possible integration of technology into their programs.
