Now, you KNOW that this host/producer is loving the idea of a Philly Phriend on the show, right?  Ha Ha!  Gerald Veasley is not only a superb, globally known bassist - and overseer of a fabulously successful Bass Boot Camp each year - but you might remember him as an integral on-air personality at the former WJJZ in The City of Brotherly Love.  Our similar WSMJ was right down the road in Baltimore.  So, GV and I have a teensy weensy bit to discuss in THAT area :)

The reason for this special Wednesday show is because of Gerald's series of shows at a new venue in our shared hometown.  "South" is generating MUCH buzz - because of its unbelievable food and it's JAZZ!  Already, our guest has hosted Alex Bugnon - and he's about to welcome Karen Briggs on 10/22!  Other guests on the horizon include the luminous Carol Riddick, Marion Meadows, Kirk Whalum and James Lloyd - some of your absolute, long-time favorite artists.

As you probably know, Gerald had a great partnership with the late/great Joe Zawinul - he played bass with Joe for seven years.  He also played with Odean Pope's Saxophone Choir.  And launched his solo career in 1992.  Two handfuls of projects later, he has NOT slowed down.  One of the highlights of time spent at the Berks Jazz Festival was enjoying the Jams within the Crowne Plaza in Reading.  There, Gerald held court - with a myriad of household names stopping by to play. So, it's a no-brainer that the owners of "South" would tap our friend to invite pals to participate in the new renaissance happening for Jazz in Philly.  The creation of a venue like this means a LOT to those of us who love the genre.  Orrin Evans is actually doing his own series there - with "the other side of the aisle" in terms of style.  ALL kinds of Jazz!

See you on 10/21 at ONE p.m. Eastern - GV joins us then!
