Def Poetry

The Def Poets Society of DeKalb School of the Arts in Atlanta, is comprised of five gifted youth poets who pour their collective heart and soul into every poem they write and word they spit. This team of future world citizens and community leaders uses poetry to call attention to the ills of society, and deliver a message of hope and deep faith. Each poem is a challenge to open the consciousness, and uncover the things that no one wants to discuss. Their poem entitled “War Children” unabashedly tells the story of exploited children in the mean streets as sex slaves and victims of genocide in the Sudan. Four Little Girls takes us back to 16th Street Baptist Church on September 15, 1963 where four African American girls were senselessly murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan while waiting for the closing prayers of a sermon entitled “The Love That Forgives.” The Hotwordz Crewsaderz were in the audience when these talented five performed at Java Monkey in Decatur, Georgia and we had to get them on Hotwordz Lyrical Theater so more listeners hear the lyrics coming out of these youth but wise souls...and YEP!!...They are HOT!!!
