About 20,000 Amarnath pilgrims had Darshan and paid obeisance at the Shiva shrine cave on Thursday, July 7th. Around 170,000 pilgrims have performed the pilgrimage since it began June 29. While in Kashmir, Swami Agnivesh labelled the Amarnath shrine as a 'deception'. “I do not believe in this type of religion. Religion is when you seek justice for the poor, for the oppressed,” he said.Mahant Nityananda Das slapped Agnivesh for his remarks and Kashmir's Hindus burnt his effigy. All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) warned Agnivesh of dire consequences if he does not apologize to thousands of KPs, who are Shaivities with Lord Shiva being their presiding deity.Journalist and well-known chronicler of Travancore history Malayinkeezh Gopalakrishnan says there was a possibility that Tipu’s invasion plans had prompted the then Travancore king Dharmaraja to bury all the wealth in the cellars.“The Muslim King of Mysore Tipu Sultan, who had invaded Malabar and destroyed many temples there advanced into Thrissur when news came that the British had attacked Mysore. Tipu rushed back to defend his kingom from the British attack. Thus Travancore was spared. Destiny intervening preserved the world's largest treasure for posterity." It's an ode to the family's unflinching devotion and integrity that not a penny has gone missing from the billions stored in the cellars of the centuries-old shrine administered by the royals.
