The Union Army during the war used every available man they could to fill the ranks. In 1862, the War Department created a new body of troops to take on light duty assignments to free up able-bodied men to fight. These new force used wounded soldiers who were unable to handle the rigors of active campaigning, but we're able to perform other duties in the rear. This show will discuss the history of the Veteran Reserve Corps and their contribution to the Civil War.
