What are the effects of keeping secrets in the black family?

Why do black families still have the attitude of “let sleeping dogs lie?" When is it time to wake them up??

Research provided by Poet Aisiah Williams shows that black families where multiple relatives, and/or multiple generations of relatives have been subjected to sexual/physical abuse, about 60% of the time, one or more family members knew it was happening, knew the perpetrator had a history of abusing others, but did not report it.
