Far too often, our communities are becoming places of brokenness. Our children lack strong role models. Kids don’t know how to take care of themselves or each other anymore. Communities don’t know how to detect and prevent danger anymore. Instead, too many of our kids miss out on life opportunities because we just don’t have the neighborhood fabric like we used to.

As a firefighter and social entrepreneur for Fire-ED Interactive, Joe Kelly is on the frontlines of the fight to restore community. Joe has worked with hundreds of kids who use fire for maladaptive coping, specifically through his juvenile fire-setter intervention program. These kids start fires out of anger, rage, and other reasons associated with the broken communities they live in.

When we do not teach core life skills to kids, or if we don't teach them properly, the result is horrendous and it already is! We have thousands of kids in burn camps, fire deaths that could have been easily prevented and destroyed families all because communities have failed to bring proven fire prevention education to their children. It deeply affects us as firefighters and first responders. It puts our lives at risk every time we respond to a fire call.
