What You Should Know About "Molly" and Other Synthetic Drugs

The fastest-growing drug problem in the US is the synthetic drug market, which includes the popular party drug "Molly." The dangers of these drugs is that you're putting unknown chemicals into your body at unknown doses. The risk of overdose is exponentially higher than other drugs. And to make matters worse, the target audience of Molly and other similar drugs, is teens ages 12-17. In this candid episode, host Kathryn Zox interviews medical toxicologist Dr. Cathleen Clancy. About Cathleen Clancy, MD

Dr. Clancy graduated from Yale University in 1982 with a bachelor of science in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. 

She is currently an Assoc. Professor in the Dept. of Emergency Medicine at George Washington Univ. Medical Center and on Staff in the Emergency Dept. at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Dr. Clancy spent time with the National Capital Poison Center as a medical toxicologist.  She is currently the Assoc. Medical Director and the Medical Toxicology Fellowship Program Director. Her publications include the chapter, Electrocardiographic Principles and Techniques to evaluate the Poisoned or Overdosed Patient in Goldfrank’s Toxicologic Emergencies: 6th - 10th  editions.
