Inside Visual Artist: Aleathia Brown

Aleathia Brown native of New York graduated Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music & Art for Fine Art and earned her BFA at the School of Visual Arts for Media Arts and Art Education with a minor in Graphic Design. She completed a Certificate program for Commercial Art at Parsons School of Design and is listed with The National Museum of Women in the Arts Archives. With more than 25 years professionally making art & entrepreneurial endeavors, Aleathia has numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her works have been in permanent collections as well as collected nationally and internationally by patrons and organizations.  Aleathia’s art tells a visual story and often translates music into color, line, movement and texture. Her innate spirituality is present in the collection of her art. Live Art is another of Aleathia’s passions exposing her viewing audience to the process and development of making art. In this body of work Aleathia spontaneously paints in front of an audience. The on stage experience comes alive accompanied by Spoken Word & Live Music. Aleathia also creates and produces artist development initiative workshops and lectures. She is the 2014 Artist in Residence as lead Visual Art Director for Project Y.EA.H. producing mural/individual works on canvas with youth at risk in Harlem. Unveiled Unlocked a global initiative founded by Ms. Brown launched during Harlem Week 2012 has included My Hair is not my Femininity City College Windows on Amsterdam Gallery as exhibiting artist and guest Curator. It was awarded a West Harlem Local Development Grant through Columbia University to produce 5 segment discussions videotaped and posted fall 2013 online using social media, local television access channels citywide.
