Recent events that have bombarded our news feeds this week highlight a disturbing trend. A callous disregard towards the value of human life can be seen through acts of terrorism at home and abroad. But disturbingly, it can also be seen in the actions of supposedly government-sanctioned organizations. Luke 12:6-7 says "Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows."
Are we becoming desensitized to all this violence? Can we see the value in human lives that aren't intimately connected to our own? Has life lost its "preciousness"? What can we do as Christians to revive the bonds of love for our fellow man?
