Although I only concentrate on two negative emotions (conceit and pride) in the second book, empathy is well worth mentioning. It also isn't what we typically make it out to be. Empathy isn't really an emotion, it's just that the emotional aspect of it is what we automatically see.

To be empathetic, or to honestly try and see from an alternate perspective, takes more of your conscious than your subconscious. We dwell on the subconscious aspect of empathy however. We realize our sadness, sympathy, and the way it makes us feel, while ignoring the most important ability that got us there.

I'll talk about why that conscious aspect of empathy is so important, and how if we take it for what it is, being empathetic to other perspectives can be great, but being empathetic to your own can be much better. Many times we don't stop and think about and emote for our own existence. Looking at your self without only seeing what's attached to it, can cause more of you (including your empathy) to come forward in to the world.
