There is a famous old Chinese proverb that says, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Today, we focus on two faith-based programs doing just that. One in Owensboro, KY, called "A Simple Path" is operated by Chef Kim Jagoe and Chef Cristin Pelsor, where people from a local homeless shelter learn life skills as they master the culinary arts, and feed a hungry public each week. The other is operated by our friends who run the Kansas City Community Kitchen, called "Culinary Crossroads" - a program to assist anyone who has barriers to entering the job market, whether homeless, low-skilled, have a prior criminal record, or any other similiar circumstances. They are taught, not just how to cook, but how to budget, how to interview for a job, how to manage their lives and function in society.

It was a priviledge to speak with these people, motivated by a real concern for their fellow human beings, who are making a difference, everyday.
