Black Lives Matter - Fresno Town hall & Rally! Date: June 12, 2020 Place: Fresno City Hall (2600 Fresno St.) Time: 4:45pm - 10pm In light of all the brutality inflicted on Black people by the Fresno Police Department, Rev. Floyd Harris Jr. will hold a press conference to address the wrongs suffered at the hands of police officers. He will review the abuses and list of demands the BLM Fresno leaders are demanding from former Police Chief and now Mayor elect, Jerry Dyer. They will include: 1. A real citizens review board with actual oversight & transparency. 2. Defunding or “redirecting” funds away from policing and instead to mental health and social programs to reduce shootings of people who need interventions such as deescalation. 3. Bonding and insurance of police officers to insure that accountability so bad cops are not on the streets repeatedly brutalizing & killing black people. This press conference and rally will also serve to give a voice to the Fresno families who have lost a loved one to Fresno police. These families are often subjected to the dehumanization and destruction of their loved ones character and thus Fresno Police will NOT be invited nor allowed to speak.
