Snake Blocker interviews Dr. Dawn Karima Pettigrew. Of Creek and Cherokee heritage, Dr. Pettigrew holds a BA from Harvard and an MFA in Creative Writing from Ohio State University. She completed her doctoral work at the University of Kentucky/Trinity Seminary.

Dr. Pettigrew’s accomplishments range from her current title as Ms. American Indian Beauty, previous world reign as Ms. Native American, an award-winning fiction writer, filmmaker, journalist, musician, and poet. She hosts a Native American talk show and currently teaches Native American Studies at the university level and is a beadworker, shellshaker, and woman’s traditional powwow dancer.
