Sharon Steele is a single mother of two and a fitness professional with the stated mission of encouraging people to embrace a healthy active lifestyle by offering fun, safe, and effective fitness classes suitable for various ages and abilities. She first learned to ride a bicycle at age 4 and has been riding most of her life. In 2010, she participated in her first Tour de Cure event, riding the 32K in Silcon Valley. She has since ridden in the Napa Tour de Cure twice (50 and 100 miles) and rode in the very first Tour de Cure Women's Series event in Santa Barbara in 2013 completing the 67 mile course. This event catapulted her love for cycling to new heights, converting her into a true roadie and soon to be competitive cyclist.

Sharon does not have diabetes. She descends from a family where type 2 diabetes and its complications are prevalent: mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. She is of the belief that leading a healthy lifestyle can greatly reduce her risk for developing the disease for which she may be genetically predisposed. Her passion is to reach those communities that are at high risk and inform them of the common complications associated with diabetes and of ways type 2 diabetes can be delayed, managed or even prevented by the lifestyle choices we make. Sharon also has several friends who live with type 1 diabetes. It is her hope that helping to raise awareness about the work of the American Diabetes Association will aid in their gaining access to more resources toward developing a cure.
