TEXT: Exodus 16:3-5

Kevin DeYoung said, "If it's the case that Christians are wrongly tolerant of unrepentant gluttony -- or any unrepentant sin -- then shame us. Sins separate us from God. When we choose to embrace sins, celebrate sins, and not be repentant of sins -- even gluttony, we keep ourselves away from God and away from heaven."

According to Dr. Donald Hensrud, a nutritionist and preventive medicine expert at the Mayo Clinic, one of the most immediate health dangers for many obese people is sleep apnea, a condition in which a person gasps or stops breathing momentarily while asleep. 'Sleep apnea can be caused by increased fat around the neck area that presses down and closes off the soft tissues of the airways while a person is lying down, especially on his back. This means the person does not get good quality sleep, has less oxygen in the blood stream, and the heart has to work harder.'

This is an uncomfortable subject for many of us, but if you listen and take heed, this particular series can not only change your life spiritually, but it can save your life physically.

As we began to see on yesterday, this passage endorses the principle of eating only what is needed to sustain us. The manna that God sent to the children of Israel was not fancy. It did not come in multiple varieties. There were not ten different flavors to choose from. It was basic food, yet it was all they needed -- and, for the most part, all they had -- for nearly forty years. Exodus 6:35 says, "the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan."
