Join me for an in depth cultural conversation with Dr. Nicholas Hartlep, author of The Assault on Commuities of Color and Model Minority Stereotype: Demystifying Asian American Success. We will explore the realities of race-based violence in communities of color. What are some of the present day drivers to the violence we are witnessing? What has been the historical past in engagement with communities of color.  The Asian-American student population supposedly scores off-the-charts on high-stakes college admission tests, such as the SAT. Public perception of Asian-American success is evidenced in the phrase “the Asian invasion” — the notion that Asian-Americans are overrepresented on college campuses. Dr. Hartlep sheds light on percieved myths and stereotypes through his groundbreaking research.

Dr. Hartlep is an assistant professor of educational foundations and is author of the books, The Model Minority Stereotype: Demystifying Success (2013, Information Age Publishing) and The Model Minority Stereotype Reader: Critical and Challenging Readings For the 21st Century (Cognella Publishing, 2013) and an author of The Assault on Communities of Color: Exploring the Realities of Race-Based Violence (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2015)He can be followed on Twitter @nhartlep
