0151 2010, Tues, Sept 14, Conservative Latino Talk Radio. Today, a continuation of yesterday’s discussion with regard to the declining morality evident in American culture today and its effect on politics. Yesterday, I discussed Republicanism is “Liberty balanced with responsibility and guided by morality.” It is that morality that is at the very foundation of our form of government here in America. That God created the universe and all the creatures in it and that we, human beings were created in His image and because of that, we are endowed with a special dignity and freedom. If we believe that then we must ensure that that “specialness” is protected and nurtured by the use of government. Thusly, the American Constitution was written and created a republic that supports those principals was founded. Republicanism is also founded in those principals. What I observe is that American culture, as a symptom of a larger disease, demonstrates a declining moral character especially in its popular media. I list the examples of games that trivialize marriage and relationships and frequently display intimate relations among participants in an effort to satiate the unquenchable voyeuristic tendencies of Americans. Pope Benedict XVI in a news release today addresses these very issues when he stated that “Society is losing religion.” I believe the pontiff in his speech articulated many of the same observations I have made and expressed his believe the disease is “society, in general, has lost its religion” and has lost its sense of who God really is and what His function in the universe really is. Finally, I disagree with Professor Stephen Hawking who allegedly in his new book, “The Grand Design” argues that God is not necessary for the creation of the universe as it will spontaneously develop because of the law of gravity.
