Interview * Stuart Trew, The Council of Canadians (COC)

Topic: International Trade Deals - Who Benefits? Who Loses?

Millionaires can benefit from International Free Trade Deals, but most people don't.

Multinational Companies benefit from Free Trade Deals, but Local Companies don't.

Trade Deals say Municipal Governments can be sued by foreign companies for loss of profits, if they promote Buy Local Publicity Campaigns, or give contracts to local businesses.

Special protection for essential industries, like agriculture and water, are not allowed, with free trade agreements.

Stuart Trew, from The Council of Canadians, offers advice for people and municipalities who question the value of international trade deals.

Apparently, International Trade Deals can be challenged, and they can be cancelled.

Some municipalities have opted for exclusion from specific trade deals, or exclusion from certain clauses of specific trade deals.

International Trade Agreements are a relatively new phenomenon in the world, and the rules of the game are still being written.
