Stonehill College strong safety Jared Gaines was voted the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year, 1 Team All-NE 10 Conference, 1 Team All-New England, 1 Team Daktronics All-Super Region 1, and team MVP (2012 and 2011). He followed up his junior year in which he totaled 97 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 INTs (one of which he took to the house) with another stellar year his senior year where he totaled 103 tackles (10.3 per game). Just to put that in perspective, the player with the second most tackles on the team had only 69. Gaines played in the Aztec Bowl All-Star Game in Mexico and the Metronome All-American Bowl. He was nominated for the Prograss International Scout Bowl, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, the Raycom College All-Star Football Classic, and the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game. He was also invited to play in the National Bowl and the FCS Senior Scout Bowl, but had finals or was playing in a different bowl game on the same day. He joins host Ric Serritella in this edition of the Player Spotlight.
