Chandra Wyman, Executive Director, CASA of Natrona County, and Cynthia Sweet, a Wyoming Guardian ad Litem in Casper, will discuss the role of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in Wyoming’s Juvenile Court proceedings. The Wyoming State Bar has approved this program for 1 CLE.
Rule 8 if the Wyoming Rules of Procedures for Juvenile Courts states that Juvenile Courts may appoint a CASA to serve the best interests of a child in abuse and neglect actions. There are CASA programs in five of the state’s Judicial Districts. Director Wyman and GAL Sweet will discuss how well-trained CASA volunteers focus upon ensuring that children don’t get lost in the legal and social service systems, and upon advocating for their interests until they have safe and permanent homes.
The handouts for this presentation are available on the Children’s Justice Project site, www.courts.state.wy.us/CJP.aspx , under the CJP Training Series Tab.
