For the next few weeks we will be studying from the epistle of James. James is believed to be the half brother of our Lord, Yahshua Ha Mashiach/Jesus the Christ (Mark 6:3; Acts 12:17; Acts 21:18). Like Yahshua, James was not known by the Englishized name James, but rather by his Hebrew name, Ya'akov. The book of James is the first epistle (letter) recognized as not being written by the Apostle Paul (the others are 1, 2 Peter; 1,2, and 3 John and Jude).

The contents of James primarily are concerned with the practical aspects of Christian conduct. Among the key subjects of the book are: faith and works (2:14-26); the use of the tongue (3:1-12) and prayer for the sick (5:13-16).
