President of Urban Romances, Nelson George is author of six novels and nine nonfiction books on African-American culture, including the Death of Rhythm & Blues and Life and Def, the autobiography of Russell Simmons. He has produced televisions programs for BET, VH1 and the Golden Globe award-winning HBO movie Life Support, which he wrote and directed based on his sister's life, starring Queen Latifah.

A lifelong Brooklyn resident, Nelson is executive producer of BET's American Gangster, VH1's Hip Hop Honors, and Chris Rock's Sundance award-winning documentary, Good Hair. He can be seen as host of VH1's travel show Soul Cities.
