The experience of being incarcerated has long-lasting effects on all inmates, but also on their families. The trauma sustained by the imprisoned individual is transmitted to the family, and the sense of loss, loneliness and shame only adds to the problem. What does the family do when this happens, how do they cope, what is it that makes them get up every morning and keep going with their lives? The allegiances that they once had feel empty, their priorities have changed. For some people this is despair and hopelessness, but some women find it in their heart to make it happen, to keep going until necessary, always with the certainty that this is a mistake and that one day it will get clear. How do they manage to get this strength?
