Stepmother Lament #4: Do I Have to Go to Everything?

Tell me if I'm wrong, but we've either said or thought it, "We don't want to go to that birthday party or sporting event or dance recital or holiday party...anything involving the entire extended stepfamily.  We don't want to be with the ex.  We are exhausted.  Yet, we feel guilty.  We feel as if we SHOULD go.  So, the question remains, "Do we have to go?"  That question is quickly followed by that age 'old' stepfamily query, "Should I go?"

Let's tear it down and see what works for you. Don't you wish the answer was a simple one.  Maybe, it is.
