I spend most of my day writing about the intersection of love, sex, and science. My first book, The Science of Happily Ever After, will be published in January. It’s a book about why enduring love is so difficult to find and how applying cutting edge social science can help people find a love story that ends happily ever after. I also write The Science of Love for Discovery Fit and Health, which features weekly pieces about how relationship research can help solve everyday romantic conundrums.

I began my interest in the science of relationships when I started pursuing my Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Minnesota. The Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota provided rigorous training in psychological science and it was there that I was first introduced to a burgeoning area of research on close relationships. Upon graduation, I took a faculty position at Minnesota, before moving on to  the University of Maryland and then the University of Colorado.

A thought that I couldn’t shake during my years in academia was that there are millions of singles looking for some guidance to navigate through the complexities of modern dating, and there is now a science of relationships to help them make intelligent choices, but there are few means to bridge the gap between the two.
