This episode introduces you to your host, Wren, along with information about alpacas in the united states.  We'll talk a little about the history of alpacas, the history of their arrival to the U.S., and address the present state of the industry, as well as where it's expected to "go."

If you've been curious about alpacas and haven't purchased any of these wonderful creatures yet, this is the show for you! There are important realities to consider when deciding whether or not a life caring for and, perhaps, breeding alpacas is for you.  It's not for everyone, despite what some may tell you. You may find that owning alpacas IS for you, but that you will do better to board them on an established farm; or, you may want to form a cooperative or partnership with others on one farm location.  There are many ways to incorporate alpacas into your life, if you want to!

For some folks, the ideal positioning with alpacas will be with the fleeces and the wide variety of products made from them.  Alpaca has long been considered "the fiber of the gods," and for very good reason.  It rivals cashmere in luxury, fineness and luster, is considered hypo-allergenic and is grown in more natural colors, right on the bodies of beautiful alpacas, than any other fiber bearing animal on the planet.  If all-natural, chemical free, made-in-the-USA products excite you, you could have an excellent, highly lucrative business in the alpaca fiber and products industry.  There are more alpaca fleeces available in the USA every year as the national herd grows, and producers are ready to provide them to you for market!

There is a use for absolutely every grade of alpaca clipped, from the finest of the fine to the coarsest of the most elderly alpacas. Useful, valuable products are made from all of it.

Here's the "skinny" on Alpacas in the USA!
