Leonard Smith III, has spent countless hours documenting his roots. His search has taken him to Orleans, Accension, Assumption, Iberville, St. James, Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. Louisiana State Archives, and the National Archives in Washington, DC.

Leonard search began when he would visit with his maternal grandmother Lettie. She would talk about her childhood, family history and " living in the county." As a proud grandmother, this was her way of passing on precious memories to the next generation.
