I don't normally comment directly on the news of the day, but this? This touched a lot closer to home.
I don't know the girl or the family, but I do have kids...and I'm familiar with the area from years ago.

I also want to talk about what has happened to our civil society. We used to go outside as kids and be gone most of the day. Now, we can't take our eyes off our kids for a second! Which has earned us the title "helecoptor parents" which is fine with me...I'd rather someone pick on me for being a helecoptor parent and have a grown up kid, than get embarassed and lower my guard and be stuck with just a memory of the kid I used to have.
