Now that we’ve discussed Harry Potter, F4F Radio continues with January’s theme of femslash in literature targeting teenage audiences by talking about Twilight. Much like Harry Potter, Twilight got its start as a series of bestselling novels set in the world of the supernatural, written by an unknown female author, attracting millions of adult as well as teenage fans. Much like Harry Potter, Twilight became a hugely successful series of movies based on the novel that continues to this day. That being said, whereas few people have had much negative to say about the Harry Potter books, beyond the occasional wacko who sees Satan-worshipping everywhere around them, the Twilight novels have as many detractors as they do fans. And to be honest, the stories sometimes do seem to invite parody – I mean, vampires that SPARKLE? Sometimes, however, being a detractor can be just as inspirational for fanfic writers as being a fan. Tonight we’ll be talking to two authors who scorned the Team Edward vs. Team Jacob debate, choosing Team Alice instead. My guests are Jocelyn Torrent, who wrote epic Alice/Bella stories like “The Stay” and “Forever”, and Beth Bluth, author of the Alice/Bella novella “The Looking Glass”. Joining me as my co-host will be Twilight fan JeanGreyX, who previously was my co-host for my show on the DC Universe. We’ll be talking about Bella, Alice, Rosalie, the books, the movies, and why thinking Stephanie Meyer is a bad author doesn’t disqualify you from being a great Twilight author yourself.
