A Man Bettering Our Community

An inspiring chat with Mr. Shon Owens. Shon is currently the coordinator of Aliquippa Council of Men and Fathers/Fatherhood Initiative of Beaver County, an initiative of Franklin Center of Beaver County Inc., in Aliquippa PA. Mr. Owens strongly believes in family values. His favorite quote is “You simply cannot be a real man if you don’t do all that you can to care for those who have the greatest right to depend on you.”

Mr. Owens was a member of the United States Navy. He is also the former coordinator of the “Why Knot Healthy Marriage Program”. Mr. Owens is the founder/CEO of Focus on Youth Sports in Aliquippa PA. He is a former member of the PTA Executive Board; he serves as the President of Head Start of Beaver County Policy Council; he is a member of the Children’s Roundtable Initiative of Beaver County, and he currently holds the position of Chairman for Beaver County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities Board. He is a member of the Beaver County Rehabilitation Center Committee, Truancy Protocol Committee, Cultural/Linguistic Competency Advisory Committee, Family Group Decision Making Advisory Council, Leaders Serving Beaver County and the Aliquippa School District Advisory Board. He also assists the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School in Student Achievement Success.

Mr. Owens has coordinated numerous youth projects and events through-out the Tri-State area and has become a recognized leader in the Southwestern PA region. He was recently awarded the 2015 House of Representatives Citation, the 2015 Senate of Pennsylvania Citation, the 2015 Christ’s Kingdom Ministry Center Most Influential African-American in the City of Aliquippa, the 2015 Martin Luther King Celebration Committee Community Service Award, 2014 Black Male Engagement Award, the 2014 Deliverance Temple Legacy Award,
