Turn from Victim to Victor: Turn your Personal Trials To Triumph. Everything does not happen to everybody at the same time. Many times, we measure our defeats and our successes against others’ accomplishments and defeats. But what would you do if you were to become homeless? What would happen to your children? The New York Times reports that, "in the Midwest, foreclosure played a role for 15 percent of newly homeless people. According to the survey reflecting soaring rates of unemployment — Ohio’s reached 10.8 percent last August — and aggressive lending to people with damaged credit." There are many other families left homeless due to mental illness including depression. Tears to Triumph contributor and author Laverne Ballard homeless as a child, shares her story and pure chaos that comes with growing up a Nomad and how she turned her personal trial into triumph. Join Sky LaRose with co-host Dr. Elisa as they discuss ways to use your challenge as a transformational experience. Laverne M. Ballard lived in 32 cities in 23 states, in more than 200 horrific public shelters and cold alley ways with her mentally ill mother who seesawed between sanity and madness. Laverne is the author of God Bless the Child, and currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and four children. Her experience has led her to do extensive volunteer work with children’s programs such the Head Start Policy Council. Laverne continues to inspire people by lending her voice to the cause of homelessness and mental illness and offering solutions.
