Over the years, Blaq Ice has established himself as one of the premiere poets in Chicago in the art of spoken word. Born in the 1970's in Chicago, Blaq Ice spent the majority of his life in the Englewood community and graduated from Gresham Elementary School and Simeon High School. It was at Simeon where Blaq Ice's desire to be an entertainer was first realized. Performing under the name "Ice Cold the Ultimate Warrior", he was known as a formidable opponent in rap battles and was later signed to a record label because of his lyrical skills and dynamic stage performances. In 1990 Blaq Ice founded P.O.E.T. (People of Extraordinary Talent). Through P.O.E.T., Blaq Ice toured in the Chicago Public School system and the City Colleges of Chicago spreading his anti-gang and anti-drug message. In addition to giving students something to say no to, he also gave them something to say yes to with the themes of empowerment, self love, respect and sufficiency.
