Steven Baranyai, a.k.a. Pakane (Grasshopper): Steven was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada and is Anishinabe Ojibwe and Hungarian through his Mother and Father respectively. His First Nation roots come from Serpent River First Nation along the North Shore of Lake Huron, where he spent much of his time growing up. Steven is a Father of two, his sons Eathen and Xavier and he walks with his love Shannon in this life. His interest in the arts came through a need to express his inner visions and desires as he grew within the current social structures that shape our lives. He could see areas of understanding that could be easily shared through the arts. The beginning of this journey can be attributed to the voice of the big drum. When he first began to sing and sound the heart beat of Mother Earth, he felt he began his journey from his head to his heart. He has been singing and dancing for about eight years now and has never looked back as the drum has taken him on a long journey within himself and an outer journey across Turtle Island. He deeply believes in a quote he heard one time from an unknown source that stated “The meaning of life is to find your gifts and the purpose of life is to give them away.” This great visionary of our time will be my special guest today.
