As we pause to celebrate Veterans Day 2013, it is worth noting that our veterans community has rarely faced greater challenges and uncertainties than at present. Sequestration and a continuing budget battle between Congress and the Administration has essentially frozen the funding of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and a huge backlog of unprocessed benefits requests continue to handicap efforts to serve their needs. In addition, a vast influx of new veterans from those who served following 9/11 is placing greater strains on the VA, whose personnel and infrastructure base is presently fixed and cannot be expanded. 2013 therefore, is a tough time for America's veterans community.

To gain a better appreciation and greater understanding of present-day Veterans Affairs, join military historian, author and journalist John D. Gresham for Military Monday at 1 p.m. Eastern for a special Veterans Day broadcast when he'll welcome guest Darin Selnick, a former official with the Department of Veterans Affairs.  Mr. Selnick is a former Air Force officer and official at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and is a spokesman for the group Concerned Veterans for America. John and Darin will discuss some of the most pressing issues facing United States military veterans and welcome your calls at (347) 945-7246.
