Viki Winterton interviews Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson!

Orrin Hudson was watching the news one night in 2000 when he saw a story about seven employees shot, execution style—for $2,000 in the cash register.

That’s when he realized evil prevails when good people do nothing. He sold his business and founded Be Someone to teach something positive to inner city kids: the focus, discipline and patience required by the game of chess.

As a former law enforcement officer, Orrin believes that prevention is better than detention, and the new currency on the planet is KASH with a K: K for Knowledge, A for Attitude, S for Skills, and H for Habits. KASH is KING. Once you get it, no one can take it away.

Since then, he’s helped over 30,000 kids develop the practical skills and techniques to overcome obstacles in life, illustrated through the best and most intellectual visual aid: the chessboard.
