Kate Sullivan interviews author and educator Jennifer Baszile who discusses her outstanding new memoir, The Black Girl Next Door (Simon and Schuster/Touchstone January 2010) and growing up in Southern California. Jennifer Baszile received her B.A. from Columbia and her Ph.D. in American history from Princeton. The first black female professor to join Yale University's history department, Baszile grew up in an exclusive oceanfront town of Southern California, battling against 70s issues of equality, race, and recognition. Ebony Magazine named Jennifer Baszile one of the "Thirty Leaders of the Future" and her memoir supports this honor. In a schoolyard battle, and in achieving her life's goals, she "remained standing." Her memoir is titled, The Black Girl Next Door: A Memoir, and the lively conversation this week on "About the Books" is not to be missed! WordSmitten Media, Inc.
