James Van Praagh is an American best-selling author and psychic. Born in Bayside, New York in 1958 to a Catholic family, he was fascinated by death from a young age. He has written several books about serving as a "medium," appeared on Oprah and Larry King, and most recently been the co-executive producer for the CBS primetime series "The Ghost Whisperer" starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.
