The IT sector is changing rapidly. Pressure to move to fast, inexpensive COTS gear, the cloud -- private and public -- much denser technologies, flash memory, and super-fast networks all are having impacts. What we are seeing is a migration toward smaller in-house setups, the transition of legacy architectures to private clouds, and the growth of mega-datacenters for cloud providers.

Infrastructure expert and blogger Jim O'Reilly joins The Enterprise Cloud Site community and editor James Connolly for a discussion about the ongoing changes in datacenter technology and concepts, and about how those developments have an impact on private and hybrid cloud initiatives.

Whatever your approach to business, the underlying infrastructure may be changing, and Jim O'Reilly has the expertise to look at what those changes mean. Here are some of the questions we will address:

  • How much of the datacenter will be outsourced to the cloud?
  • Will technology shrink equipment faster than installation growth?
  • Where do containerized datacenters fit in?
  • Will green power be important for in-house datacenters? For mega-datacenters?
  • Will we need much faster WAN links to make hybrid cloud approaches work?
