At the end of 2011 I was fortunate to be able to spend a day at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe in the San Diego area. I visited with various departments, and those conversations will be featured over the next several weeks, but I thought I'd share with you my conversation with Michael Arms, President, CEO of the center.  I spoke with Mike about where we are as an industry and what we can possibly become.  The center provides an ongoing program called ACES  to educate and provide tools for shelters, rescues, and other organizations, highlighting that we are not competing but in this together. Mike also shares with us his moment / story that changed his life and that of millions of animals. Join us in conversation and you will soon find yourself enrolled in his mission!

This weeks blogs...

Now that Winter seems to be upon us...  Frostbite not only happens to children,  but our pets need to be prepared as well. Here is an article from Jennifer Coates, DVM discussing frostbite prevention and initial treatment options for our pets: Baby It’s (too) Cold Outside. Continuing the theme... DR. Shea Cox discusses four simple measures you can take as a pet parent to prevent distress and concern should an emergency arise while you are away or if you need to seek care outside of your normal veterinary relationship: Be Prepared: Four Emergency Room Essentials. And finaly, a great article on how pilots with a passion for our pet companions are making a difference:  Pilots N Paws: Flying to Save Animals. All pilots involved in the program are nuts about flying; these are avid animal lovers who donate both their flying time and planes.  Today there are 2,529 pilots registered on PNP, with a goal of 10,000 pilots participating in the future. Now that's an air force to support!
