Tonight in 1966, the first Star Trek episode aired "The Man Trap", this would launch a franchise that is still alive today. Star Trek has spawned 5 spin off shows, Star Trek The Animated Series, Star Trek The Next Generation, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Star Trek Voyager and Star Trek Enterprise, and, a new series, Star Trek Discovery is due to air in 2017! But, wait, there's more, not only did Star Trek thrive on the small screen, it exploded on the silver screen. In 1979 Star Trek The Motion Picture hit theaters and this month Star Trek Beyond, just hits the silver screen. To date, there have been thirteen Star Trek movies, with, talk of a 14th. There are hundreds of novels, tech manuals, and comic books, with no end in site. Star Trek conventions and fan clubs have never been stronger, and, Star Trek lives. The big question is, WHY?
