J.D. Goossens,  author of his first novel To Lains Road, 

Born in St. Thomas, ON, Canada (2 sisters, 1 brother). Moved to Vancouver, BC out of university. Became disillusioned with first real job (paint sales) after three years. Quit to backpack overseas and write novel. The rest is also history.
