We have a returning guest this morning, Barry Fisher, Founder of GROW, a fresh market located in Manhattan Beach.

Barry entered the produce industry shortly after finishing college with a position in the export division of Dole Citrus.  After leaving Dole, Barry worked for two private produce export companies before opening his own company, M&B Produce, in 2003.

In 2005, Barry and his wife Kathy opened GROW - The Produce Shop in Manhattan Beach.  The idea was to offer superior produce at normal retail prices and source produce from many of the growers whose product Barry exported.  The model was quickly adjusted due to customer requests for meat, fish, wine, cheese, select groceries and artisan bread.  The little produce shop turned into a specialty natural market.

In 2015 GROW expanded its footprint by assuming their neighbor’s lease.  Later in 2015, GROW opened their second location in downtown LA’s Arts District.  This location was modeled after the Manhattan shop, but also includes a full kitchen.

This morning, we’ll discuss the upcoming CHERRY SEASON, Grow’s new delivery service and some of Barry’s adventures in produce over the last 13 years.
