Our guests morning are Peggy Sivert Zask, a local artist who works mainly in sculpture, and Mario Johnson of Grandma’s House,  and they’re here to discuss FRESH 2016.

Peggy is the director of the non-profit art organization, South Bay Contemporary, located at the corner of 4 Street and Mesa in the San Pedro Arts District - the space is called the LOFT Gallery and Studios.  he organization, 10 years running, recently went non-profit and moved into the Loft in 2015.  The Mission:  to bridge contemporary Art with Science, Humanities and Issues of our culture. They have had shows dealing with Mental Health, Native American Activism and Transforming Feminisms among many others and are developing educational programs for children, artists and art students, hosting exhibitions, experimental projects and events.

In 1879 Grandma Cora Johnson devised a delicious barbeque for the first Juneteenth celebration held in Arlington, Texas. Her recipe became a family tradition and a well-guarded secret. Today, her grandson, Mario Johnson, uses the same original spices to create his masterpiece barbeque for patrons of Grandma's House. Grandma Minerva added her special flare to the menu by teaching Mario how to make delicious dishes with a Louisiana Cajun flare. That's how Grandma's House was born.

This morning, Peggy is going to bring us up to date on South Bay Contemporary and fill us in on what attendees can expect at FRESH 2016 and Mario is going to tell us what he’s cooking up in the kitchen for the event.
