Hermosa Beach Fish Shop with Vera Jimenez

Our guest this morning is Vera Jimenez, meteorologist and traffic reporter for KTLA 5 News and owner of a South Bay restaurant, the Hermosa Beach Fish Shop.

Vera was born in Mexico and moved to Southern California when she was 3. She attended Bolsa Grande High School and Santa Ana Community College. She later attended Cal State Long Beach where she graduated with honors in religious studies.

It was during her time at SACC that she started in broadcasting. She interned at KIK-FM in Orange and then got a job producing traffic for Shadow Broadcasting. She landed a fill-in job doing traffic overnights at KFWB-AM. The best learning experience came while at KNX-AM, where she was an airborne traffic reporter.

Vera eventually got a chance to work on television — first for KABC-TV and then for KCBS-TV, here in Los Angeles. While at KCBS, Vera went back to school to study meteorology at Mississippi State, earning her certificate in August 2009.

I know our listeners are already familiar with Vera’s day job but this morning we’re going to learn about her latest endeavor right here in the South Bay, the Hermosa Beach Fish Shop.
